Applied DBT:
Integration & Problem Solving
DBT Skills Integration & Process Group
For clients who have completed foundational DBT or CBT skills training and demonstrate consistent use of emotional regulation strategies.
This is a semi-structured, skills-integration group designed for individuals who are ready to move beyond foundational skills training into deeper application, structured processing, and action-oriented problem solving. Members are expected to arrive with a working ability to use regulation strategies during emotionally activating discussions and a willingness to engage actively in the therapeutic process.
Group sessions focus on applying existing DBT/CBT skills to complex life situations, identifying patterns, and developing concrete next steps. While personal experiences are explored, the group emphasizes skillful reflection, collaborative problem solving, and movement toward meaningful behavioral change rather than open-ended processing or crisis-focused discussion.
This group is intentionally designed to challenge and strengthen how members apply skills in real-world contexts. Participants are encouraged to examine habits, test new approaches, and translate insight into action between sessions. Facilitators actively maintain structure to support safety, focus, and therapeutic momentum.
In addition to skills application, the group incorporates in-depth education on nervous system regulation grounded in current clinical and neuroscience research. Psychoeducation is based on citable, evidence-informed frameworks and clinically supported mechanisms rather than pop-psychology or oversimplified explanations, supporting members in developing a nuanced and accurate understanding of regulation and change.
To reinforce integration and healthy expression, sessions may include experiential interventions drawn from complementary evidence-informed approaches (e.g., mindfulness practices, expressive or art-based activities, and structured experiential exercises). These practices are used intentionally to strengthen emotional awareness, regulation, and adaptive processing - not as unstructured exploration.
Facilitators actively guide discussion and activities to maintain clarity, accountability, and therapeutic focus. Members are expected to:
-
Participate respectfully and share group space collaboratively
-
Remain connected to regulation skills during discussion
-
Engage in solution-focused exploration and problem solving
-
Remain open to feedback, reflection, and behavioral change
-
Practice applying skills and insights between sessions
This group is intended for clients who can tolerate reflection and differing perspectives without significant dysregulation and who are ready to engage in growth-oriented, action-focused work. It is not designed for initial stabilization, intensive crisis support, or foundational skills acquisition.
This group is best suited for individuals who are actively practicing skills, willing to consider multiple perspectives, and ready to engage in structured, growth-oriented work. Members who are currently seeking primarily open-ended processing, crisis stabilization, or a foundational skills class may benefit from a different level of care or a skills-building group before participating in this group.
